Mike Labine

Mike Labine is a 1987 graduate of the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, along with minors in both Psychology and Coaching. During his time at UND, Mike competed in track and field for four years, serving as team captain for three of those years. He taught high school and middle school math in Detroit Lakes, MN for 30 years and then switched roles to become a Freshman Seminar teacher for the last 5 years, which allowed Mike to focus on career and college exploration, goal setting, and helping all students to create a lifelong plan and vision.

In his tenure in Detroit Lakes, Mike also served as an assistant coach in football at various levels for 34 years as well as head track coach for 28 years at the school. In 2018, Labine was selected to be an assistant coach for the North All-Stars in the Minnesota Football Showcase.

As Head Coach for the Detroit Lakes High School Girls Track and Field team, Labine led his teams to the Minnesota State True Team Championships eleven times, finishing as high as 2nd in the State of Minnesota in 2015 and finishing 3rd on two different occasions. Coach Labine's Detroit Lakes High School girls track teams won the MidState Conference Championships 25 of the 28 years he was the head coach, including a string of 16 consecutive Confrence titles from 1992-2007.

In 2004, Coach Labine completed his Masters Degree from Hamline University by writing his thesis on "Differences in Coaching Male and Female Athletes in a High School Track Program." Since then, he has been a featured speaker all over the upper Midwest for parents, coaches, teachers, and administrators.
